We Didn't Bring a Menu. We Brought Malaysia.

our story 01 big

Roti Bar was born out of a simple craving for the kind of food that takes you back. The flaky, buttery roti canai from a mamak stall at midnight. The char kuey teow from a wok that's been seasoned for decades. The warmth of a kopitiam where nobody rushes you and the teh tarik is always just right. We built Roti Bar so Melbourne could have that feeling too.

Ray, our head chef, grew up cooking alongside family in Malaysia and brings that same instinct and those same recipes to every plate. Ju Lyn, our front manager, makes sure you feel like a regular from the moment you walk in. Together, they've created something Melbourne hasn't quite seen before: a little piece of Malaysia, right here on Little Collins St.

Watch the Craft Live

In Malaysia, the best roti comes from a roadside stall where you watch every fold, every stretch, every golden flip. We kept that tradition. Pull up a seat and watch it happen just like back home.

Malaysian Food as authentic as can be with service that is even better! I fully enjoyed my time here with the brilliant vibe that Roti Bar has and the accommodation that Kits and the team provided. Roti Bar will always be a staple for me whenever I visit Melbourne.

Feels like stepping into Malaysia, I loved the whole vibe of the place, just need to be careful on the weekends as it gets too crowded best to reach around the 12PM mark so you don't have to queue for too long, I ordered the ROTI Canai
Good place to get Malysian food. Lots of gluten free options. On a Saturday night, very busy, without reservations we had to sit outside. The outdoor seating was fine, the street is very quiet. You have to go inside to order, then they bring the food out.

Authentic malaysian food. Reminded me of growing up surrounded with these type of local food then. I visited the place twice. Wouldn’t mind a third while visiting Melbourne. Expect a queue on Saturday lunch because of the banana leaf meal. Regardless, worth the wait. Staff was very helpful and polite with a smile. All the best to the roti bar crew.

My friend and I ordered its Char Kuey Teow and Chicken Curry Laksa at $19.50 each; It is expensive. The portion was quite big even though it looks small in the picture. The taste of the char kuey teow was okay and not the best. It has that wokey taste and quite dry. The curry laksa was also not bad. It just didnt meet my expectation. The laksa (noodles) was good but I didnt really like the taste of curry that much. Its coconut milk is quite strong that overpowered the overall taste of the curry. The chicken was tender and soft though. Love the waitresses as well! They are very kind and helpful. Love the ambience as well. 8.5/10!

This is my second time visiting Roti Bar and the food was amazing again. We were here to celebrate my mum's birthday and everyone enjoyed all their food. It's very authentic and the rotis are 👨🏽‍🍳😘 Our family favourites were the rotis (we had different ones - from plain, butter and egg), the murtabuk and the laksa. It's a child friendly place and my boys also enjoyed the food. One loved the roti so much that he ordered 2nds. Food is prompt and service is friendly. Ju Lyn, the co owner and manager, is so delightful. She's great at checking in and making sure that everyone is happy. This is definitely a place to add to your "most eat" Melbourne list.
ROTI BAR is a popular destination for Malaysian cuisine in Melbourne, and it can become quite crowded during peak hours, a clear reflection of its strong reputation. Despite the busy atmosphere, the food remains consistently impressive, offering generous portions at reasonable prices. Service is another highlight: the staff are warm, attentive, and accommodating, even when the restaurant is at full capacity. The menu has several standout items. The chicken skewers, the signature 65-spice chicken, and the coconut shake are particularly memorable and easy recommendations. Their fried rice and noodle dishes are also well executed, delivering comforting, well-balanced flavours. The desserts, however, are less remarkable; skipping them in favour of another coconut shake is likely the better choice. Overall, ROTI BAR is a reliable and enjoyable spot to bring friends for a Malaysian dining experience. A final tip: if you can smell the food from streets away, you are almost certainly heading in the right direction.
